Ingredients
-
Rocket Cookie Cutter
-
Piping Bags
-
Bright White Food Coloring
-
Super Red Food Coloring
-
Sky Blue Food Coloring
-
Thingamagenie (or a sharp toothpick)
Directions
Bake and cool cookies fully before decorating. Prepare royal icing in the following colors and consistencies:
Outline/Piping Consistency:
White
Red
Flood Consistency:
White
Red
Light Blue
Outline the top and bottom sections of the rocket with the red outline consistency icing.
Add a squiggle of red outline consistency icing in the sections. Allow to dry for a few minutes. This helps prevent craters or sinking in the icing as it dries.
Pro Tip: Small sections are prone to flood icing cratering. It is best practice to add a squiggle of outline consistency icing and use the outline consistency icing to fill in and manipulate with your scribe tool to maintain the height of the icing as it dries.
With the white outline consistency icing, pipe a circle in the middle of the rocket shape.
Fill in those sections with the same red outline consistency icing. Use your scribe tool or toothpick to smooth out the icing and pop any air bubbles that come up.
Pro Tip: Alternatively, you can also use a red flood consistency here, if you are finding it difficult to smooth out the icing in these sections.
Flood the circle with the light blue flood consistency icing. Use your scribe tool to pop any air bubbles.
Allow these sections of icing to dry for 20-30 minutes before moving onto the next step.
Outline the remaining shape of the rocket with the white outline consistency icing.
Flood the remaining section with the white flood consistency royal icing, leaving the circle section empty. Smooth out the icing with your scribe tool and pop any air bubbles that come up.
You can leave the rocket as-is, or add embellishments. Wait 20-30 minutes or until the icing has crusted over before adding any additional detail.
