Bake and cool cookies before decorating. Make sure cookies are fully cooled. If they are warm, the icing will run off of them. Make royal icing.
-
2
Prepare the following icing colors:
Piping Consistency:
Green
Blue
Black
Yellow
Orange
Flood Consistency:
Green
Blue
Black
Yellow

3
Using piping consistency black icing, outline the body of the train as shown. Create some additional definition in the cab of the train, the front, and the smoke stack to add dimension to your cookie.
-
4
Next, use black piping consistency icing to outline the wheels and cow catcher of the train. Add a window to the cab of the train with black piping consistency icing.
-
5
Flood the cab of the train with orange flood consistency icing. Move the icing around with a toothpick or scribe tool to ensure full coverage and to eliminate any air pockets. Wait for the icing to begin crusting over, 30-60 minutes.
-
6
Flood the front of the train with blue flood consistency icing. Move the icing around with a toothpick or scribe tool to ensure full coverage and to eliminate any air pockets. Wait for the icing to begin crusting over, 30-60 minutes.
-
7
Now, get colorful with it! Flood the remaining outlined spaces on the body of the train with colorful icing as shown. We used Leaf Green and Lemon Yellow.
-
8
Now, flood the tires with black flood-consistency icing.
-
9
While the black is still wet, use orange piping-consistency icing to pipe dots in the center of each wheel, as hubcaps of sort.
-
10
Once the body of the train is crusted over, begin adding details with black piping consistency icing as shown. Connect the wheels and add detail to the cow-catcher.
-

Add the finishing touches, outlining the window to create definition and outlining the rest of the details in black to create more dimension if desired.
